Best Answer

Use a thin blade - we used a wall paper scraper - to lift one corner. Once you have done that, grab the tile and pull. the wallpaper scraper also comes in useful in scraping off the leftover adhesive from the surface underneath the tiles.

Can you lay carpet tiles over outdoor carpet?

It is possible to do but not a recommended practice Carpet tiles are designed to be installed over a stable surface. Even if you use one of the solvent based outdoor adhesives there will be some movement of one carpet against the other. This abrading will result in premature separation of the layers and you will be constantly trying to re adhere sections of the floor as they come loose. The best procedure is to remove the existing carpet, prep the surface & then install the tiles.

Can you tile over wall tiles?

It is best to remove the wall tiles. You need a flat service and a lot of times old tile will not be perfectly flat. If you remove the tiles you will have a good base to tile on. If you don't want to remove the tiles you may be able to add a backer board on top of the old tile and then tile on that.

Carpet is difficult to install yourself if you don't have experience. For best results, rent a carpet stretcher from an equipment rental store. For easier carpet installation, consider carpet tiles. These are squares of carpet with an adhesive back. Simply peel off the backing to expose the adhesive and place the tile on the floor. Carpet tiles can be installed over vinyl, wood or concrete.
