It would help to know the year of your Monte Carlo, but these instructions will work for the 200-2005 model years, and possibly the 06 and 07 as well. first purchase a new universal fuel/gas cap, remove the old cap like you would if you were filing up, now position the strap so that the retainer arms are on opposite corners of the square hole that the arms cath on, rock one side upward and the other downward into the square hole. pull the gas cap out and screw the new one into place. Most replacement caps will not have a retaining strap.

Driver side of motor you will see a canister with I think 1 1/4 nut on cap remove cap remove fuel filter replace with new filter reinstall cap. Remember to remove filter slowly
