The upper mount STUD, after you remove the 15 mm nut, can be unscrewed with a 6 millimeter socket. You could just leave the STUD, loosely, in the alternator hole; then, lower the alternator to take it out. If there is a BOLT in the upper mount, you could fully loosen the BOLT, leave it in the alternator hole, and lower the alternator.

In the lowered position, disconnect the wires from the alternator, and (after disconnecting the end of the tie rod), work the alternator out of the the car. No other disconnections of suspension parts, or drive components, are necessary.

How do you replace the alternator on a 1987 Honda Civic DX?

Disconnect the negative battery cable. Remove the air cleaner assembly if necessary. Disconnect the electrical connectors from the alternator. Loosen the alternator adjusting bolt or nut and through-bolt and remove the alternator belt. Remove the alternator adjusting bolt or nut and through-bolt and remove the alternator. If necessary, remove the mount bracket bolts and the upper and lower mount brackets. Installation is the reverse of the removal procedure: put the alternator in place and re-bolt mount bracket (if removed). Engage the electrical connectors and install the air cleaner assembly (if removed).

Removing alternator from 1989 Honda accord?

Disconnect the negative battery cable. There are two wires connected to the alternator remove them. Then remove the left drive axle or remove the left engine mount, place a jack under the ol pan, raise and support the engine. This will provide te space to remove the alternator because it is very difficult to remove it from the top side of the engine.Loosen the alternator bolts, slacken the belt, then alternator can now be removed from the space created.

How do you change the alternator on a 1997 Honda Civic LX?

Remove the alternator from below the vehicle. 1. Disconnect the positive battery cable. 2. Disconnect the 4P or 3P connector from the alternator. 3. Remove the terminal nut and the WHT wire from the B terminal. 4. Remove the adjusting bolt and through bolt nut, then remove the alternator belt from the pulley. 5. Pull out the alternator through bolt, then remove the alternator. 6. If necessary, remove the mount bracket bolts, and the upper and lower mount brackets. 7. Adjust the alternator belt tension after installation. The deflection should be between 6mm to 8.5mm for a new belt.

How do you replace the alternator in a 1993 Saturn SC2?

This is relatively easy, you will need to take the vehicles left front tire off, remove the splash panels that protect the engine from water off the road and remove the serpentine belt. The alternator is held in by (2) bolts and its wiring harness. You will need to remove the plastic shroud on the alternator to get to the wires and remove them, it is held onto the alternator by one bolt. When you get the wires off, and the bolts removed, wiggle the old alternator up and down until it come loose from the lower mount. Remove the old alternator through the wheel well, sounds funny, but it will not come out any other way, then insert the new alternator. Pay close attention to the lower mount, it has an adjustable mount that if compressed will make installation of the new unit easier than removing the old one. Bolt in the new alternator, reinstall the wires, shroud and serpentine belt and you are done with the hard stuff. Now reinstall the splash panels and your tire and you are back on the road.
