If it's the kind that CAN be re-keyed, then you just remove the pin and the thing slides out.
I beleive you mean dead bolt, a 2-3/8" DEAD BOLT with a key on one side is good.
it depends on what you are working on but most cars and trucks have a bolt at the shaft there is a y shape with a bolt remove the bolt and y then pull the distrbuter out but first mark where the rotor is pointing so you can put it back or make shure your eng is at number 1 top dead center

The battery may not be dead. A quick check would be to connect a jumper cable from the negative battery terminal to the engine block and then try to start the engine. If the engine starts the problem is in the ground cable, most likely it is the threaded bolt that connects the ground cable to the engine block. The fix is to remove the bolt from the engine block and clean the threads with a wire brush. The threads may appear to be clean, but the practically invisible corrosion layer between the different metals of the bolt and the block can result in up to a six volt drop (or more) at the bolt. This produces a voltage at the starter that is too low to enable it. You might consider putting a conductive compound like a nickle based anti-sieze lubricant on the threads after they are cleaned. I've seen this happen twice on aluminum block engines.
