just remove the grills off the speakers with a flat head screw driver
The type of speakers used in the dash of a Jeep Liberty are called tweeters. These units are small speakers that off one specific type of sound such as bass. To replace them remove the top section of the dashboard. Then remove the speaker mounting screws. Unplug the old units and plug the new ones in.
Remove the side panels closest to the doors and unscrew the top screws on the dash. Once you remove it will be easy to take out the stock speakers and replace them. I replaced mine with a pair of Alpine Type S SPS-600 Speakers, this makes a huge difference. Good luck!

The speakers were all recalled due to a vibration in them. Take it to the Jeep dealership and they will replace all the speakers in the car at no charge.
