the sparkplag wires lead from the sparkplugs to the distributor.
on this old distributor there is a cap that holds the wires in place on the distributor. Is there a trick to remove top cap?
Follow the spark plug wires back from the sparkplugs. If you have a distributor, that's where you'll find the cap. If you DON'T have a distributor, you probably have coil packs and don't need to worry about the distributor caps.
you remove the wires that are going to the distributor and look where the distributor meets the intake there is a little plate the rests against the distributor and it has a bolt in it remove that and pull distributor up and out and u have to remove wires that go to the plugs as well
Yes anything can brake if you tighten it to much.
Change the sparkplugs, plug wires, distributor cap, rotor, pcv valve and possibly the air filter if it is bad.
You remove the coils and plug wires that are on the valve covers, the plugs are under them.
Remove the doghouse, mark spark plug wires if they aren't already, remove spark plug wires, remove 2 screws holding the distributor cap in place. Installation is reverse of removal.
To remove and replace a distributor, first ensure the engine is off and cool. Disconnect the battery, then remove any necessary components obstructing access to the distributor. Mark the position of the distributor and its wires for proper alignment, then unscrew and lift out the distributor. When installing the new distributor, align it according to your markings, secure it, reconnect the wires, and reassemble any components you removed. Finally, reconnect the battery and check the timing if necessary.
The wire from the coil goes to the center and the rest go to the sparkplugs http://www.classiccarauto.com/impala/how_to/images/distributor.png The wire from the coil goes to the center and the rest go to the sparkplugs http://www.classiccarauto.com/impala/how_to/images/distributor.png
Mark all of the spark plug wires with their respective cylinder numbers. Remove spark plug wires from distributor. Remove 2 screws that retain distributor cap. Using a paint marker, mark the location of the rotor with respect to the distributor housing. Remove the 2 distributor hold down bolts. Pull distributor from engine. Install new distributor in reverse order, being sure to insert the new distributor with the rotor in the same orientation as the one that you took out.
down in the middle of the valve cover. just follow the spark plug wires. if there is a plastic cover over the motor take it off. there will be 3 in the front valve cover and 3 in the back
