Funny, i just did this chore so ill tell you the BEST WAY,lol five minutes tops! All you need is to move those mettalic clips holding the fuel lines onto the filter, now, you cant really remove them so just fenagle them to get out of your way so you can get to the ends of the fuel lines easier. Now a good tool for this job is a round plastic tool used to remove the lines from the filter found at any auto parts store, you see,the ends of the fuel lines have four clips inside the end of them to attach themselves to the pipe sticking out of the filter, which has a lip itself on the end of the pipe in order so the clips in the fuel line, when pushed together,"click" and are held in firmly. The tool looks like a round piece of plastic with a split on it so you can just slide it on the pipe of the filter and all you do is push it into the end of the fuel line. When you do the round clip is able to push in all 4 clips at the same time and VOILA,out comes the line, dothe same for the other side and just watch out for your eyes cause some fuel will drain out.O, and make sure your keys are out of the ignition cause say if your ignition was on ,fuel would spray nonstop!!Now simply install your new filter and clip on the new lines by simply pushing them back on.One note ,when your ready to start your truck up again turn your key on to the position just before you crank it up,this allows the injectors to pump some fuel into your system, thus filling in the empty fuel filter so when you start it it doesnt stutter and buck! I just completed this job as well. It is IMPOSSIBLE without the fuel line tool. Advance auto sells several different sizes. The 2001 Expedition uses the 5/16" size. The 3/8" size looks close but does not work. Their tool is metal and costs about $6.00. Also, the fuel filter is located on the driver side frame rail about even with the rear door. Good advice above.
