remove radio, heater control, glove box, dashboard trim & bezels. once you do this you can see a tublar bar which the dashboard secured to. remove the dashboard and the heater core is there in the center
Remove the entire dash board, starting at the bottom. The control relays are on the lower right (passenger side).
take off your dash bezel that stretches from your gages past your radio then remove the heater control box and it will be on the back twist it out and replace your bulb for around $1.00.
The heater control valve motor is located below the dash on the passenger side. First remove the glove box, then the lower trim panel. Before removing the lower trim panal remove the center trim around the radio and A/C controls. After removing the lower trim panel, the heater control valve motor is on the left side underneath the automatic compressor controller, connected to the heater control unit.
Remove the heater control valve and replace it.

Remove the heater control switch decorative cover. Remove the retaining screws. Remove the wiring harness. Reverse the process to install the new switch.
remove heater bezzel (remove knobs and remove two Philips screws.) just pull out, do not remove. then unclip and remove stereo bezzel.
Remove the radio/heater control module. Disconnect the temperature control cable at the base of the control assembly . It is on the center mound just to the right of the gas pedal. Take the heater control cable off of the back of the heater control module. Pull the temperature control cable off.
The heater control panel on a 1998 Outback is all one unit with the vents that are above it. To remove the heater control panel, pull off the fan knob. Then, with a flat screwdriver gently pop out the thin piece of plastic below the heater control. There are screws here. The heater control and the vent cover can then be taken out by using the screwdriver to pop the clips holding it on.
You need to remove the dash panel. It will allow you to get access to many connectors and it will be easier to remove the harness.
To change the heater control panel on a Mercedes C180, remove the radio and the two screws under the CCU panel. Pry off panel and remove the bracket.
