try going thru the dash. you must remove the panel over the air cond and radio. remove the radio. and your in front of the heater core. looks like a small radiator Usually on a Ford its not that hard the best way to do it is go to your local parts store chain and buy a repair manual for that vehicle.

You can find the 1985 VW heater core behind the drivers side kick plate. You will need to remove the kick plate in order to access the heater core.
To change the heater core in a 87 ford f150 is easy. Just remove the glove box and then behind it there is 7 bolts. After you remove the 7 bolts then just remove the cover and behind it is the heater core. By far the easiest heater core I ever changed.

Drain all coolant from your system, disconnect heater core hoses from heater core in engine compartment. Remove the glove box, open plastic housing, and theres your heater core. No need to remove dash if only replacing the core.
