They just pull off.... NOT very easily though. Chances are, they will be loose when you put them back on (if you reuse them) so you'll need a little glue when you put them back on. They are simply pressed on to the levers.

the nuts holding the heater core box is in the engine compartment. the wheelwell needs to be removed to access the nuts. once all the nuts are removed, remove the heater hoses from the firewall and then wiggle out the heater box, but be careful of the cables and wiring. lower the box and remove the cables from the levers and the wiring from the heater resistor pack. remove heater core and reinstall
