How do you remove the radio on a 2006 Holden Viva?

Stereo upgrade.

TOOLS-

*decent sized smooth flat blade screwdriver

*philips head screwdrivers.Small and large

*"tiny-machine" flat blade screwdriver

*electrical tape

*silicone/ caulking gun

Disconnect battery before starting.

REMOVAL-

First job is to pop the silver plastic bezel containing the radio and air controls.

The easiest place to stick screwdriver is likely the bottom round-corners of the plastic.

Be bold,the clips are pretty mean.Try not to damage the surround.

There are 6 metal clips- 2 low,2 middle,2 top.

When they pop they are likely to fall off or even pop back inside the dash,though with luck they can fall out onto the floor again.

Because of the AC controls the bezel only comes out 1" bottom left, 3" top right.

The bolts for the headdeck and pocket can be undone with a screwdriver.

To remove the head deck ,unscrew the side brackets to fit it through the bezel.

On the way out pull the antenna lead and harness off the back.

FITTING-

(NOTE-aftermarket decks don't line up with Viva's mounting brackets!!!! it sucks, if I had the time I would bend up and drill my own out of tin steel, but this time I just sat the brackets tightly either side of the new deck and finished off the job with 3 strategic blobs of silicone between the bottom of the deck and the pocket below)

This is a good time to fix up and reset all the bezel clips for later. I chose to leave the very-top clips off for refitting since they were the hardest to pop out.

The original player has a wire/pinout diagram on top to identify the necessary wires needed, but you should use a pen and write a colour code beside each label.

Strip back 25 mm of the clip wires for the new deck,ready for joining.

Pop open the cars wiring clip block.

Using a tiny screwdriver, push out the female pins on the cars wiring clip-

(NOTE-it's best to un-pin and connect one wire at a time to avoid getting mixed up, and don't remove any pins that don't need to be used, since there are some the same colour, and incase the factory stuff needs to be put back later.

Twist up a wire and poke it through its matching pin, 25mm of bare wire should be enough to go through and wrap around a bit.

Tape up each wire individually as you do this, and work your way through speakers+,-,Acc,Batt connections.

Double check your diagrams again.factory wiring clip colours/patterns are always confusing.

Screw the earth wire down with the right hand deck bracket, screw the left bracket in too.

(NOTE- the pocket below DOES NOT screw to earthed-steel)

Take the rubber locator off the back-middle of the factory deck and mount it on the adaptor screw for the new deck.

Plug in the new deck and the antenna socket and do a test fit.

Hook up the battery now and test the deck before popping the trim back together!

Once it's all checked out ok, complete the job by lining up the new deck where you want it to sit, glue it down there with a little silicone and clip the front bezel back over it.
