If the XS1100 is the same as my one (european style not sport or US ) the seat is BOLTED to the frame by two captive bolts - these are 14-15mm if I remember correctly and there is one on either side about midway along the underside of the seat - note the tailpiece is attached to the seat - so you would undo the captive bolts until they are free to move - then slide them aprox 20 mm towards the tank to free the seat from the frame .
