The knob is pressed onto the shaft, I broke mine trying to unscrew it. I had to get an after market knob after that. If you are talking about the shaft, there are 3 torx screws that hold the shifter into the trainy, then it just lifts out. 1988 f150 with 5 speed

I have a 2003 F-150 that is a stick, and this is how I removed/replaced the shift knob: The knob itself is glued down, so you need to remove the center of the knob itself ( the part with the shifting diagram ) by sliding either a small flat head screwdriver or knife blade under the lip and prying it loose.... Not hard, maybe 30 seconds. After that is done, use a hammer and a flat piece of wood to knock loose the existing knob. Place the piece of wood on top of the knob and pop it a few times ( don't be timid about hitting it ) and it should slide down. Once it's loose, pull it off by pulling straight back. If you have no intention of keeping the OEM knob, then don't bother with the piece of wood, just hit the knob directly.

To replace the shift tube on a Ford F-150, first, disconnect the negative battery cable and remove the center console if necessary to access the shift assembly. Next, locate and remove any retaining clips or bolts securing the shift tube, then pull it out of the steering column. Install the new shift tube by reversing the removal steps, ensuring it is securely fastened, and then reassemble the console and reconnect the battery. Always test the gearshift operation before driving.
