Clean the throttle body
The 3.8L engine found in some years and models of Buick cars uses a throttle body to regulate the amount of air flowing into the engine. This throttle body has a butterfly valve on the front which is opened and closed with the throttle cable. The throttle body needs occasional maintenance, including cleaning and lubricating the linkage. To do this, you can remove the throttle body from the engine, which should take about an hour to do.
I was told by my Jaguar dealership that it can be either "a clogged breather tube can cause that to happen, but it can also be an issue with the throttle body."
Both. It has fuel injectors and a throttle body.
just in front of the throttle body. you'll need a security torx bit to remove it.
It's under the throttle body. To get to it, you'll need to remove the throttle body and flip it upside down. The IAC valve is mounted by two screws to the throttle body, and it has a gasket that you will need to replace if you remove the IAC valve, so make sure you have a new gasket on hand if you intend to take off the IAC valve.
It is located on the throttle body, opposite of where the throttle cables hook on.
