Repairing the alternator is not a do-it-yourself project.
Replacing them is the typical approach.
If you have the smaller size 3.0 "Vulcan" engine, the alternator is on top of the engine. Pretty easy replacement.
The 3.0 Duratech engine alternator on the otherhand is down on the bottom - accessed from the front passenger-side wheelwell opening.
