easiest thing to do is trade the old pump in and purchase a rebuilt unit from an auto parts store. leave the rebuilding to the shops that have the tools,parts and know-how.

Up to 1994 will fit, Chev or GMC
The "freeze" problem can be caused by 2 things. First,,a slipping belt and second and most likely,,a defective power steering pump. If you have a GM model with a Hydro boost sysytem,,make sure the system is bled of all air.
You can rent the proper tool to that job from your local auto parts store. The tool can remove and install the pulley with out damaging pump and/or pulley.
