Code 1409 refers to a fault in the EGR system vacuum regulator. This regulator or " solenoid" is found close to the DPFE sensor, and receives electrical command from the engine computer to adjust the amount of vacuum force applied to the EGR valve , therefore regulating the amount of E-xhaust G-as R-ecirculated into the engine.Common causes of this code include: broken or shorted wires, loose connection at the socket, both of which can be diagnosed by simply wiggling the wires to make sure that there is a tight connection; dirty filter, which can be cleaned by popping off the cover and cleaning the foam filter, or leaky vacuum supply. Less frequently the solenoid itself might be shot, and testing the resistance between the 2 prongs should normally show between 0.2 to 0.4 ohms. Replacement is pretty straightforward , and should cost about $30 at the parts stores.Just make sure the vacuum tubes are not reversed.
