Water hammer is caused by the quick closing of a valve (i.e. dishwasher, ice maker, etc.). There are several types of "hammer arresting devices" on the market. The quick fix for this is to purchase a supply stop (cut off valve) with a built in shock (hammer) arrestor and replace your old supply stop. These can be purchased at your local hardware store. They usually are made in iron pipe thread, compression style or PEX crimp or PEX expansion style. Be sure to purchase the right one for replacement. It is a quick and easy fix. BE SURE TO TURN YOUR WATER OFF BEFORE REMOVING YOUR OLD SUPPLY STOP.
Water hammer. It can be harmless.
If the oak is in the unfinished state use linen juice.
This condition is caused by "water hammer". It's water pressure fluxuations caused by turning faucet on & off. To fix the problem, attach (solder?) a length of pipe, as long as possible, but 16-18 inches should suffice, with a cap on the end, installed vertically, with a tee joint, behind the faucet. Anywhere in the feed pipe near the faucet is OK, but the closer the better. When water is brought back up to poressure, a air shock absorber is created, and will solve your water hammer problem.
I hav e the same problem
No. Installing an anti-hammer arrestor in water line will take care of water hammer.
I just brought a Glacier Bay pull down ceramic kitchen faucet Model 896408. After installing it, the cold water wasn't coming out of the faucet. It turned out the problem was the coldwater supply line inside the faucet was bent & twisted. As a result, when the body of the faucet was attached, it had to be turned just a little to position it correctly, this tighted and choked the water supply line even more- which meant "no cold water." Waiting on replacement line from Glacier Bay, which, I am certain, will correct the problem.
If your refrigerator has a built-in icemaker and/or water dispenser... that's probably it. Try turning off the feeder valve at the water source and see if the problem goes away.
water thats in the kitchen
Install a water hammer arrestor (air chamber)

When a valve is closed quickly the flow of water is interupted causing a water hammer. A water hammer arrestor or air chamber can be used to absorb the hammer.
The type of professional that fixes hot water boilers is a plumber. They can also do other things, such as install and repair leaks to the kitchen sink and bathroom.
