Almost always, the rain/snow that have evaporated around the base of the rear dutch doors have caused them to seize closed. have someone depress the release button in the dash (or use the remote release if your still works) and from inside the van push/kick at the base of the door with another person having the door handle pulled (a 3 person task). If the door opens, use Liquid Wrench or PB Blaster and clean the corrosion off of the underside of the doors and the sill/ledge the door sits in (lube the hinges with white grease before you consider the task complete). The only other possibility is that the cable could be streched, no likely tho.
Make sure it closed tight to start with and the click remote a few times.

Did u ever find a solution?!?! My driver side rear door will not open from inside or out! Both doors won't open from inside but the doors were still useful when opened from Outside. It's annoying!
The rear doors on a 1995 Mercedes S420 won't open if the child safety switch has been turned on or the locking mechanism is defective. This can be checked by manually trying to open the doors from the outside.
From the outside.
The rear doors on a 1998 Passat will not open if the lock is engaged, the child proof switch has been flipped, or the door release is broken. Repairing this problem begins by narrowing down the root cause.
