Is this a front or rear window? Front drivers side Take the control panel and the door cover off, including the plastic covering. You have to remove the speaker as well. In or around the speaker well, you will see two holes with bolts in them (holding the old motor in ). There is a third bolt which is a pain to get to. (match the two holes up with the replacement motor and you will see where the third hole should go) Look on the panel of the door (in a dent in the speaker well) in the proximity of the third bolt and drill a hole there. You will most likely see a very small dent in the panel showing where to drill. (why do you have tro drill and there isn't a hole already?? I have no clue). Remove the old motor though the speaker well, replace the new one, matching all the holes up (use a magnetized tool or be prepared to dig for a bolt). After that, test it out and replace all the pieces parts of the door and speaker in the appropriate order. I'm not mechanically inclined at all, but I got it my first try and saved about $300...drilling the hole the right size took the longest, and in total took about an hour.

pull off the internal door covering and you should be able to push the window up then jkust find a way to wedge it into place. did it on my 90 E150

u have to have the window rolled down about 4 inches. If the window is stuck up force it down and you can access 2 bolts holding it to the window. Only force it if you plan to replace the regulator.

sure it's the motor and not the window regulator? The regulator is made of plastic (stupid VW they know it's a problem and won't do a recall) when it breaks the window is stuck down because the cables twist. I have this problem now and went to VW site and they have a video online to show how to fix the problem. But you have to order the parts from them.

There are many reasons that this could happen. If the you don't hear the motor when you press the switch, the problem is electrical and you need to troubleshoot the fuse. wiring, switch. If the motor does run then the most likely cause is that the small plastic gears inside the window motor are worn and need replacing. This is fairly simple if you have some mechanical ability. Complete motors or the gear repair kits are available at most parts houses, and repair kits are very inexpensive on eBay. If the motor runs a little and stops then your likely cause is in the mechanical window regulator that actually moves the window. That is more work to replace than the motor but the parts are still very common and not overly expensive. This is still simple enough that it can be done by many backyard mechanics. You can find much more information on the some of the Explorer enthusiast websites. Many Explorer owners have already done this very successfully.

YOU GONNA NEED THAT WINDOW.. lower window to down position(if you can) remove door panel remove window weather stripping remove black window surround (should be a screw on top of surround towards back edge) then stationary window should unbolt then remove pins that hold operator to track pick up and pull out the operating window
