By law, this must be done by an ASE certified tech in an EPA certified shop, which will have the equipment to properly recover and store the refrigerant (which needs to be removed from the system before any of this work is performed). Additionally, since this operation will open up the air conditioning system, it will also be necessary to replace the receiver-drier (if the system uses a Thermal Expansion Valve) or accumulator (if the system uses a Fixed Orifice Tube).
