Its located on the brake pedal. Unplug the wiring harness and unbolt it and replace it.
brake light swith located under the brake pedal is stuck.
check and see when your brake pedal is not pushed down if it is pushing the brake swith pin back in if so you need to replace the brake light swithch located behind the pedal
Possibly a defective brake light swith stuck closed.
on most cars the the stop light switch can be found by just following the brake arm up under the dash and you will see a plung like switch set up that when you mash down on the brakes it plunges this swith in activating the brakes light .this swith is not actually connected to the brake pedal arm but a bracket by normally to little bolts loosen bolts and unplug then replace /note-spacing is sometimes tight
Common issue...if the brake light swith is not working; the cruise control will not engage and your brake lights will not go on. replacing switch is easy and inexpensive...its located in the upper part of the brake pedal.
at the brake pedal behind or on top
usually the brake light swith is up under the dash right above the brake pedal itself. I have an 09 cobalt and it has a u shaped tab that rides on the side of the brake pedal arm on a small stud that sticks out.
I'm not a mechanic / technician but if all ( 3 ) brake lights don't work ( assuming you have a 3rd higher mount brake light and all the bulbs and fuses are fine ) then it would be a problem with your brake light switch ( and also I BELIEVE if all the outside brake lights stay on )
Auto Zone part #80171.
No, they are independent of each other. Check the bulbs and if defective, replace them. If not then you either have a bad brake light switch or a bad turn signal switch. ** Also try spraying contact cleaner around the emergency light swith on the steering column. Press it many times to lubricate and clean it and see if that brings the brake lights back to life.
you pop the clear plastic off on the side of the swith and replace the light... close by putting the opposite end first and the clicking it in by the switch. thank you
Usually the brake light swith is mounted on the brake pedal arm just under the dash. The switch is depressed when the pedal passes a certain point of travel. Usually there is a plug to unplug off the swith and some sort of mounting device, like a cotter pin, to take off. Hope this helped. Mark
