Just did the job yesterday.

First, check to see if any fuel is going through. Do this by remove the air breather exposing the top of the carburetor. Find the fuel line and unhook it. Have some one push on the gas to see if any gas is being pumped through. If not, then you need the fuel pump replaced.

You find the fuel pump by following the fuel line from the carburetor. It is hard to see. We found the fuel pump in this case on the driver's side. My buddy worked from above while I crawled underneath and assisted him from below. One mistake we made was to remove the two bolts that hold the pump in place and then tried to remove the line. Wer should have tried to remove the line first. So we had to rebolt it and then remove the line.

I took the old pump to an auto parts store. First I called around to see who had one to save myself a lot of driving. They all asked the same questions: what size engine. Mine was an 8 cylinder 351. I took the old pump and compared it to the one they were selling me.

Back at the garage, before installing the new pump, I removed the old gasket and cleaned the opening really well before putting the new gasket on the fuel pump. My buddy put a little vaseline on the surface to hold the gasket in place. Then I bolted the new fuel pump, then attached the fuel line at each end.

When I started up the old truck, it still wouldn't run. That's because it takes a while for thenew pump to suck the gas through to the carburetor.

Anyway it worked in a few minutes and it worked every time all day long today. Knock on wood.
