I have a 1995 Mercury Grand Marquis and my mother has a 2003 and they both are the same, so yours probably is also. After you pull the trunk lining away so that you can see the metal, there are 3 large black plastic wing nuts that you unscrew. Once you remove those, the tail light section will come out from the front and then you can get to the bulbs to replace them.
open your trunk and on both sides there is a cover with plastic screws take a Philips screw driver and undo the screws and remove the cover, behind that there is a metal plate cover that you can see holes in, take a socket wrench and find a socket that fits that bolt undo all of them and then the lense should wiggle out
The bulb is replaced from the engine compartment. The driver side is much easier to replace than the passenger side because you can pull the battery out.
Once you have access to the area the headlight wire harness releases from the headlight assemble by lifting the plastic hook that latches to a nob on the light bulb assembly. Since it's plastic it can break very easily.
Once you have released the headlight wire assembly the bulb is held in by a plastic collar that turns counter clockwise about 1/4 to 1/2 turn. It is difficult to get a good grip on this piece and that is the hardest part of the job.
When the collar is off the headlight bulb just pulls straight out.
You then reverse the process to put the new bulb in.

The lamp assembly has be completely removed.Remove the screws on both ends of the radiator grille and pull out the grille.Using a T30 Torx screwdriver, remove the two screws and loosen the 3rd screw. ( its best to get the T 30 because you will know what screws you are looking for.The screws are not interchangeable and must be replaced to the appropriate location. Carefully pull out the lamp assembly and disconnect the wiring connector.Turn the bulb holder counterclockwise and pull it out.Replace the bulb.
# Remove the headlight door mounting screws and remove the headlight door. # Remove the 4 retainer ring screws and remove the retainer ring from the headlight. # Pull the headlight bulb forward and detach the wiring connector.
To install:
# Attach the wiring connector to the headlight bulb and place the bulb in position, locating the bulb glass tabs in the positioning slots. # Attach the bulb retainer ring to the assembly with the retainer ring screws. # Install the headlight door and secure with the screws. # Check the headlight bulb aim and adjust as necessary.
Remove the connector from the back of your 2004 Lincoln Town Car headlight. Take hold of the headlight, push in and turn at the same time. The lightbulb will come out. Reverse the process to install the new lightbulb.
There's one little part of the assembly that tabs-out and you can easily get to the bulbs then.
You don't. The switch is all one , you will have to replace the entire switch.
