Remove the center portion of the knob. Remove nut. Remove knob. Unscrew retaining nut and push shaft through to back side of dash board. Switch now dangles from wires. Remove battery ground strap before removing any wires from switch. Draw a diagram of the back of the switch and clearly label it with the colors of the wires and their locations, also before removing any wires. Replacement is the reverse of this sequence.
there is no fuse for the headlights......the bulb may be burned out or the headlight switch may be bad
The switch is to the left of the instrument panel below the wiper switch. To get to it you must remove the panel surrounding it.
Rotate the headlight switch knob left or right with headlights turned on.
usually the headlights have a fusible link near the battery but check for power to the highbeam switch and headlight switch first.
You will need to remove the retaining ring at the top of your 1979 Chevrolet El Camino ignition switch. The ignition switch will slide out. Remove the wiring harness. Reverse the process to install the new ignition switch.

first check that the vacuum lines are all there and connected. you have 3 to each front headlight and 1 going to the manifold split with an override pull switch to the right of the headlight switch. if all are connected and there is no plug on the vacuum port in front of the distributor, you may have a bad vacuum tank located under the light bar. here is a link for better diagrams. http://www.corvette-101.com/images/vacsys.jpg
