if it is a push pull and rotary type headlight switch it calls for a special tool. not exactly sure of the name but you can go to a local vw dealer service department or an auto parts store to get it they should know what you are talking about. once this tool is in hand remove the rear seat and disconnect the neg. cable from the battery then unscrew the knob from the switch after this is done the special tool comes into play in removing the lock-ring once this is done open the front hood ( front is front of the car) remove the two knurled nuts that attach the dashboard access panel to the firewall and remove the pannel pull the switch out of the dash clearly label wher each wire went and will go ( taking a picture with a phone is the easiest and best ref. guid) then disconnect the wires attached to the switch terminals then installation is the reverse of removal just make sure the notches in the body of the switch engage the projections in the hole in the dashboard
take it to the dealer and let them do it
