There is no short cut or fast way to do this. The dash has to come out to access the heater box and replace the core. So the steps in replacing the heater core are to disconnect the heater hoses, remove the dash, to access the heater core cover on the front of the heater case and replace the core. Reassembly is in the reverse order as disassembly. Fill the cooling system with new coolant, and burp the air form the cooling system. There is no short cut or fast way to do this. Remove the water supply hoses from your 1997 Nissan heater core. Remove the heater core retaining bolts. The heater core will come out.
The heater core is leaking. GEt a manual from DISCOUNTAUTOREPAIRMANUALS.COM and replace it.

The big blue book said 3 hours to remove the heater core . I had to remove the dash and metal cage to get to the air box. It isn't possible to do from the bulk head or fire wall as some may call it.
It is inside the heater core box behind the dash assembly. The dash assembly must be removed to gain access.
The nipple next to the heater core hoses is the drain tube for the a/c . The antifreeze is coming from the heater core , that is leaking .
Not totally sure with a '97, but the blinker on my '98 is located on the passenger side, under the dash. Not sure exactly where I saw it (I remember seeing it when I took out my dash to replace my heater core), but I am positive it's on that side.
I had the same problem with my 97 galant. There was air in the heater core.
You will have to disconnect the liquid line and the accumulator from the evaporator tubes in order to remove the heater core.....

Remove the hoses from the heater core pipes and install a short piece of pipe in both those ends. Install hose clamps and it's bypassed.
the heater core is located behind the dash on the passenger side of the cab. much of the dash has to be removed and shifted to get to the box that houses the heater core. the hoses that supply coolant to the heater core must be remove via the engine bay. it is somewhat of a lengthy process, but can be done with patience and time.

On all Dodge, Plymouth and Chrysler products there are no easy ways to do this since the heater core is inside the a/c box, they are all dash pulls...........
There isn't a rear heater core in a regular sized tahoe. Only rear ones in Yukon xl and suburban. Tahoes have one in the front passenger side.
go to autozone.com. and click on the heater core part for your sonoma. then there should be an install manual button u click on on the page. i have a 98 gmc wit a heater core out also. i think the 97 models you just have to take off the dash.
First, disconnect the negative battery cable, and the instrument panel. Drain the cooling system before you raise the vehicle and disconnect the heater core. Remember to dispose of the drained fluid and return every component to its right place.
