If your timing belt has cracks in it both inside and out, replace it!
By wearing the seat belt which is after all there to protect you. Having seen the direct results of someone who was not wearing a seat belt, I would strongly advise that you do so and then you won't have a problem with the reminder. However, if you do insist on not wearing it, the quickest way to disable the chime is to do up the seat belt aound the back of your seat.
Inferior technology is only used on inferior cars. BMW stopped using belt timing in the early nineties. They all have chains.
It is very easy to replace the battery on a 1994 BMW 318i. The battery can be found in the trunk on the right hand side of the car. All you need to do is to use a screwdriver to take the plastic clip holding the battery in place off. After the clip is removed, take the battery out and then replace with a new one.
Sepentine-replace tensioner,v-belt, adjust accessory and tighten.
what we do at BMW would be to remove the bulb from the dash cluster in front of the steering wheel.
put another one in where the old one was.
It means you don't have your seat belt on all cars do that!!
