Stator removal/installation 1. Place bike on centerstand. 2. Remove both side covers and the seat. 3. Disconnect the battery negative lead. 4. Remove the fuel pump stay. Then disconnect the electrical connector going to the alternator stator assembly. 5. Remove the screws holding the left hand rear crankcase cover and remove cover. 6. Remove the exhaust system from the rear cylinder. 7. Remove the bolt holding the gear shift pedal and remove pedal. 8. Remove the bolts holding the left hand front foot peg. remove the peg. NOTE: In the following steps it is not necessary to disconnect the hydraulic line from the clutch slave cylinder. If the hydraulic is disconnected the clutch system must be bled. 9. Remove the bolts holding the clutch slave cylinder and bracket and pull the clutch cylinder, with the hydraulic lines still attached, back and out of the way. 10. Remove the bolts holding the coolant protector. 11. Remove the bolts securing the alternator cover and remove the cover, gasket and electric harness from the frame. Note the path of the wire harness as it must be routed the same during installation. 12. Remove the electrical harness from the clips on the frame. 13. Remove the bolt and the wire clamp holding the wire to the housing. 14. Remove the bolts holding the alternator stator to the alternator cover. 15. Carefully pull the rubber grommet and the electrical wire harness from the alternator cover. 16. Install by reversing these removal steps, noting the following. 17. Be sure to install the wire clamp. If the clamp is left off the rotor may rub against the wires, wear off the insulation and cause a short in the circuit.
