It's a pain. The air filter sits in a housing on top of the engine -- that big black plastic box. You have to remove the whole box. It's fastened by 4 rubber grommets that fit into 4 posts. You have to disconnect everything connected to the box; then you have to pull up on it. It will seem impossible, and in fact it may be hard to do without breaking some of the plastic. But with enough tugging in the right places, you will be able to pull the housing from the engine. Then there are a whole bunch of torx screws to take out, which will allow you to remove a large piece of plastic that then exposes the air filter. Fun! Brilliant design!
