Drain the pool until the water level reaches two inches below the skimmer faceplate , remove the face plate using a screwdriver , remove the faceplate and skimmer , then replace the gasket and attach the skimmer and then the faceplate

Why use skimmer door?
Your skimmer door is called a weir. A weir is a pivoting flap, door or dam in a skimmer that keeps bugs and leaves from re-entering a pool or spa by collecting the debris in a basket while letting water recycle through the filter system.
What causes the skimmer door not to open?
You might have debris stuck between the wier and the skimmer mouth. Or your deck or bond beam may have shifted slightly causing the wier (skimmer door) to stick. You might be able to shave a little off the sides of the wier to allow it to work.

Does water leak out of pool skimmer?
here is how I did it - I built a box out of wood big enough to cover the skimmer area . I built mine out of scrap wood. I then covered the edges of the box with foam window seal to give it a good seal. Place the box over the skimmer area. When you start you will only lose the water inside the box and the water pressure will seal the area. Replace skimmer, remove box.

Can you replace the skimmer without replacing the liner?
Yes you can. Drop the waterline in the pool below skimmer level, dig a whole around your skimmer to gain access. Unscrew the skimmer faceplate and remove it as well the old gasket. You also have to remove the second gasket between liner and wall. Detach the pipe(s) from the skimmer. Now install the new skimmer by attaching the pipe(s) to the skimmer put new gaskets in place screw the faceplate back on and you're done.
