im not to sure about the 88, but the 85 (i think are the same)disconect the battery. turn the ignition to run. remove the stearing wheel, then the lock plate behind it (using a lock plate depressor, remove the ring that holds it from popping out) after that, there are a couple screwes that hold in the ignition cylinder-remove them and pull it out with the key.
