Best Answer

1) Purchase a flush kit ($4 at AutoZone) and 1 gallon of pure green antifreeze and 1 gallon of 50/50 mix green antifreeze. The only tools required are a drain pan, utility knife, screwdriver, and possibly pliars or a wrench to open the drains. 2) With the engine cool, remove the radiator cap and drain the dexcool from the radiator, engine block (not all engines have a drain and some have 2), and coolant recovery tank (may require removal). Do drain the dexcool into a drain pan so it can be disposed of properly. This stuff is bad for people, animals and the environment, so don't be a jerk 3) Install the tee fitting supplied with the flush kit into the heater hose according to the instructions and attach a garden hose to the tee fitting. 4) Turn on the hose until a good positive flow of water is coming out of the top of the radiator and all the drains. 5) Start the engine and turn the heater on high. 6) Run the engine until warm and the water running from the radiator and drains is clear. 7) Turn off the engine and turn off the garden hose and allow all the clear water drain. 8) Disconnect the garden hose and leave the tee fitting open (this will make filling the system easier since trapped air can escape through the tee fitting). Some engines may have an air purge valve that needs to be opened to allow air to escape when filling the cooling system with coolant. 9) Close all the drains and reinstall the clean coolant recovery tank. 10) Fill the radiator with the gallon of pure green antifreeze. This will mix with the water that is trapped in the heater core and engine block and become a 50/50 mix. Then top off the radiator with the gallon of 50/50 mix until antifreeze starts to come out of the open tee fitting or air purge valve. Cap off the tee fitting with the cap supplied in the kit and or close the air purge valve and finish toping off the radiator. Fill the coolant recovery tank to the fill line with the 50/50 mix. 11) Replace the radiator cap and run the engine until it is up to normal operating temperature. 12) Allow the engine to cool and check for leaks. 13) Remove the radiator cap and top off the radiator with 50/50 mix and replace the radiator cap. 13) Drain, flush and replace the green antifreeze every 3 years and your dexcool problems are over.
