First things first, safety should be the top priority,no smoking no heat or spark sources at all. Take some digital pictures as you go through this process, and remember to have an enourmous amount of care and patience. Also be aware that THIS IS NOT A CERTIFIED METHOD,but it will keep the money you would pay a mechanic or a shop in your pocket. Also be sure to read any information that comes with the new part. ALSO YOU MUST RELEIVE THE FUEL PRESSURE FROM THE FUEL SYSTEM BY REMOVING THE FUEL RELAY FUSE It's under the hood in the fuse box.

.try to get your gas tank as close to empty as possible, you can do this by getting a one gallon can of gasoline and secure in your vehicle so it wont tip over and spill.

.drive the passport around until you run out of gas, not far from where you're going to perform the repair, use the one gallon of gas to get you to that destination.

.Park the vehicle ,let it cool down.

.disconnect your battery terminals.

.Raise the vehicle with a floorjack, front end of vehicle must be raise first on a level roadway to prevent rolling. The vehicle must also be in park. Raise it as high as possible, place jackstands under the vehicle, make sure you have four of them. two in front and two on the rear.make sure that you don't put the jacks in the way that you're going to lower the tank.

.Lower the vehicle on top of the jackstands.

.Place a floorjack underneath the center of the tank. you can also use a wooden board placed in the center in between the jack and tank, to help stabilize the tank when you lower it with the jack.

.take off all the bolts except two which must be opposite from each other,to hold the tank in place.

.Unsnap fule lines from the side of the tank. disconnect the snap on fuel lines by pressing in on the sides where there are two blue squares on each line .be sure to have some rags close by because there will be some excess fuel coming out of the lines, but if hoist them up to the chassis they wont leak out.

.Disconnect the wiring harnesses theres 2.Make sure that you unsnap the harness holding clip on the tank.

.Disconnect the fuel inlet hose. this is the one that comes from the gas cap.you can do this with some pliers just squeeze the clamps together and slide ti to one side.

.There is another hose attached to the tank.I don't know what it is called but it has two 10mm bolts holding a metal enclosed cup. its easier if you leave this attached to the tank, so disconnect it from the metal tube. Also make sure to take off the two metal 10mm bolts.

.Once you are sure that everything is disconnected. You can start lowering the tank which needs to be pulled out on the drivers side

.make sure that there is not any gas leaking from the tank. pull over to an area that does not have any heat or spark sources. where you can retrieve the old fuel pump, and install the new one.

.remove the metal retaining ring with a cooper or brass punch and a hammer. the punch must be brass or copper so it wont create a spark.

.When you remove the metal ring just wiggle the pump out and it will pop up.Inspect the rubber seal, which looks like a ring,if it has cracks or it looks worn replace it to prevent fuel leakage in the future.

.Replace the new pump and repeat the steps in reverse.VERY IMPORTANT WHEN YOU REPLACE THE FUEL LINES ONTO THE NEW PUMP YOU MUST HEAR A CLICK OR ITS NOT ON CORRECTLY,AND YOU WILL HAVE GAS LEAK OUT.

.before you lower the vehicle doublecheck your work make sure that nothing is loose and all bolts are in place.

.reconnect the battery.and turn the key forward without turning on the vehicle, this will pressurize the fuel lines.Once you have arrived at this step check for leaking on or around the tank and fuel connections.

.You can Now restart your passport and test drive it and feel good about yourself because you did this all by yourself, maybe you can take the family out to eat with the money you saved.

I inquired here about the location of the fuel filter on my 2001 Accord Lx. The answer I got was that it was in the fuel tank and that there was no need to replace it. I don't know if that would be the same for your car. Try calling a Honda dealer's service shop.
