remove the black plastic breather (17mm) and refill with 2lt of gear oil after draining the old oil from the gearbox using the drain plug on the bottom of the box (21mm)

It may be the ball locking mechanism(it helps the gear stick stay in place on not jump out of gear) that is found under the gear stick or on the transmission. You may need to replace or it could just been loosen of.

id recomend a david brown 995 gear stick they work well!!
The gear stick has a diagram of where to move the stick to engage a certain gear. For example, if Gear 1 is in the top left corner, you must move the stick to the fair left, then forwards to engage first gear. Oh, and you have to push down the clutch each time you change gear.
There are usually no lights or meter for gear oil. In old automatic gear boxes you have a dip stick to check the oil levels. New automatic gear boxes can be a sealed unit, and manual gear boxes you have to open the drain plug, and replace the oil.
The synchro cones in the gearbox are worn. Either a strip and replace or a whole gearbox swap is the cure.
