just been there with my 89'. you have to take the sensor box off of the top of the steering wheel, via 4 bolts that use the hex keys. they after there you can remove the cable from the back of the speed sensor and work it through your fire wall through the engine compartment, depending on what type of engine you have, my 2.8L v6 it connected to the transmission when looking from the front of the truck, was at the front left of the tranny.
very easy to replace/break, so have fun :)

i have a 1990 Isuzu trooper as well and the speedometer and odometer also quit working, they both come off of a mechanical cable that is attached to the drive train. that cable breaks, and you lose both speed and odometer indications. they are extremely difficult to find, so if you do, write me back...
There is not an odometer cable. The odometer is driven by the speedometer. If the odometer is not working then you will have to replace the speedometer head.
how to get a 2001 isuzu trooper hood open if release cable is broken
accelerator cable
You don't as it does not have a cable. You replace the speed sensor instead.
Red is positive. If they are both black then the cable that is connected to ground is negative and the other cable is positive.
don't have 1
odometer cable and speedometer cable are the same thing, unscrew cable from speedometer head under the dash and unhook it from the tranny and pull the cable out and replace with a new one.
with difficulty :P
spray it from the inside with wd40 see if that helps...
you can't. there is no cable. it's all electronic. in future year helps
There is no such thing. The odometer is electrically driven from the PCM via the vehicle speed sensor. If the odometer has failed you need to replace the cluster.
