On a 1991 Mercury Cougar : The oil pump is INSIDE the oil pan ( the oil pan is bolted to the bottom of the engine )
with a socket & wrench
at the bottom of the oil pan under the car.
lift the engine
Drain the engine oil. Remove the pan bolts. The engine may have to be unbolted from the motor mounts and lifted slightly to remove the pan. Pull the pan out, then install the new pan and gasket.
You would have to remove the oil pan to replace it.
you have to raise the motor or drop the k member, or both
The oil drain plug is located under the front end of the car, on the rear side of the oil pan.
Just like all automatic transmission cars, remove the oil pan.
Place a drip pan below the oil pan and oil filter. Remove the oil pan plug. Drain the oil into the oil pan. Replace the plug to the oil pan. Turn the oil filter to the left, to remove. Fill the oil filter with oil and replace it to its original position. Fill the motor with oil.
The oil pan is at the bottom center of the engine, and the plug is on the back of the oil pan, facing the rear of the car. It can only be removed with an open end wrench because of the limited space between the plug and the exhaust pipe.
It is leaking. Have a complete fluid and filter change. Replace the pan gasket.
