if you need to ask, you should probably not attempt it. it is not just turning a couple of bolts and taking it out, and you could ruin your motor if you do not do it right or end up with a nasty oil leak.

Your 1997 Sonoma has no carburetor. It is fuel injected. The injector may be not fully closing and thus causing a loss of fuel pressure. Try running a can of Seafoam or Techron fuel system cleaner in a full tank of fuel. Repeat at least twice. If that does not help you may have to replace the faulty injector and change the oil/filter which has become contaminated with fuel. You may also have a fuel leak, at the fuel filter or the fuel rail. Another possibility is a partially clogged fuel filter but not likely. Seafoam or any other additive will not fix this problem. Secondly these trucks do not have fuel injectors, they have fuel spiders with poppet injectors. Check your fuel pump prime pressure it should be a minimum of 58 psi. It will NOT run w/ 57 psi! If it is less than 58 replace your fuel pump. If it is 58 or more replace the fuel spider. Fuel filter should always be replaced when replacing pump or spider. Contaminated oil will not cause this problem either.
