It is in the steering column, right behind the lock cylinder. (where you put the key in to start) You have to take the molding off of the lower column. Loosen four bolts to drop the clomn down. Romove lock cylinder. Undo wiring harness to ignition switch. Remove the two screws mounting swith and replace. The switch should come pre set to on position. Wich the lock cylinder has to be lined up to in order to remove it. Note: the two screws that hold the ignition switch may look like rivets, but they are threaded. Take a pair of needle nose vice grips to remove them. The new switch should come with a pair of hex countersunk screws. This will make it esier to replace again if ncessary. Good luck.
This ignition switch of the 1987 TBird and many other 80s 90s Fords was the subject of many electrical fires and a major Ford safety recall To change it out take plastic covers off of the bottom of the dash under the wheel and off of the bottom of the column The installation is pretty straightforward Installation should have included car theft resistant hardware which is difficult to get off Wire harness to this switch is most often badly heat damaged with baked or missing insulation so it is good to change out a good section of the wire harness down the column if this is the case
1. Disconnect the negative battery cable.
2. Remove steering column covers
3. Disconnect the electrical connector from the ignition switch
4. Remove the screw retaining the switch to the steering column
5. The following installation is reverse of removal
you take the two mounting bolts off of the bracket and you pullit off then you put the new switch on the same way you took it off
There is a solonoid on the starter and the ignition switch is on the steering column.
found this, might be the same, Merry Christmas, anyways! :) For a 1988 Mercury Marquis remove bottom shroud from steering column (5 Philips head screws). There is a wire running from the ignition switch to the left side of the steering column; detach it from the coupler (This can be done without a tool). Turn key to ON position until the panel lights come on. There is a small pin near the bottom of the key lock; push it in and pull the ignition switch out (don't panic if the wire seems to be stuck; it will come out). To replace, turn new ignition switch to same position. Push pin on the ignition switch in while sliding it back into the steering column. Reconnect wire and then replace shroud.

The symptoms of neutral safety, on your 1987 Mercedes-Benz, will begin with the vehicle not shifting properly. Another symptom is the vehicle ignition switch not turning to the off position.
There is no ignition module on a 1987 5th ave. The spark control computer is on the air cleaner with a vacuum line hooked to it.
Remove the airbag and steering wheel, remove the torx screws from the steering housing and remove the housing, remove the screws from the signal and wiper switch, and remove the screws above the ignition switch and remove the switch. Replace the switch and replace everything in reverse.Ê
There is a solonoid on the starter and the ignition switch is on the steering column.
Your key switch contact inside the ignition switch cylinder may be stuck closed. You may need to replace the switch or the ignition key cylinder. On a Ford and GM, the contact is replaceable without the ignition switch, but requires the steering wheel removed to replace it. Not sure what is required for the Lebaron, but it is not a major task to do for a mechanic.
It will be under the clutch, as it meets the firewall.
the truck will not crank or anything with the key it wont even starter when you ark the starter all it does is whizz
The ignition switch is located on the bottom of the steering column. Take out the 4-6 screws that hold the bottom piece and you will see the switch should be about 3-4 inches long held in place by 2 screws. take black plug off then replace switch plug back in and there you go.
The brake light fuse on a 1987 Thunderbird is located on the back of the headlight switch. It is not in the fuse box.
The ignition switch is usually mounted to the steering column and is operated by a linkage rod. NOTE On column-mounted ignition switches, don't confuse the switch with the lock cylinder and keys. The ignition switch is not normally visible. On some vehicles, the steering column support has to be removed and the column lowered to find the ignition switch. On others, the switch is accessible under the dash. The ignition switch is operated by the key switch. Courtesy of Ford Motor Company. To replace the switch: * Remove the ignition switch wiring harness. * Unbolt it from its position. * Bolt the new switch into position. * Attach the witing harness.
Under the brake pedal. Looking up at the pedal you will see the switch it is srewed to the dash and rests on the metal arm of the pedal when you press the brake pedal the switch close's and the brake lights come on. To replace the switch it is very straight forward just remove the srew from the dash separate the wire and replace..
Sorry Yes You Do.
