remove the steering wheel. unbolt the collar that holds the steering column underneath the dash. that plastic box halfway down the column with all of those wires hanging out of it is your ignition.
Disconnect the battery then reach behind the dash and push in the small round button on the side of the switch assembly. While holding the button in ,pull out on the dash knob. The knob and shaft should come out.Somtimes you have to wiggle the knob and push the button in and out until the shaft comes out of the switch.Next remove the switch bezzel then remove the wiring harness plug and take the switch out.
The ignition switch is attached to the stearing column, below the dashboard. You will need to drop the column, but don't forget to disconnect the little cable that operates the gear indicator first, or it will break when you drop the column and it will not be an easy repair. The switch is held on by two screws and operates from a rod that travels front to back along the steering column, changing the position of the ignition slide switch.
It you are talking about the actual unit where the key goes to start the truck then you should see a small pin hole just to the side of the key entrance. Stick a needle/ pin whatever works in there and push the spring back. The ignition should pull out, use the key in the ignition as leverage. If you hold the bezel/ faceplate, chrome or painted while unscrewing the rest of the unit from the back that should be all. Use a flat screw driver to first remove the wiring harness clips over and out of the locking position.
The ignition switch itself is rod actuated. It is mounted to the steering column under the dash. Two screws mount it to the column. Just make sure you get the rod in the hole on the switch itself, and that you align the new switch properly before tightening the screws.
