I assume you are asking about the Mass Airflow Sensor. This sensor sends the computer information of the amount of air entering the intake manifold from the air filter box. Running a dirty air filter to long or no filter at all will cause this sensor to malfunction causing the engine to run poorly due to an improper fuel mixture.
This sensor is located on the Duct that connects the air-filter box ( mounted on the driver's side wheel well ) to the intake manifold ( the four tube aluminum assemble at the top firewall side of the engine.). The Mass Air Flow Sensor is clamped at the air filter box end. It has a small square box on one side where the senor's wire plugs in to it connecting the car's computer via the wiring harness.
New these sensors cost close to $500 but many auto parts sell reconditioned ones for around $250.
P1131 - Manufacturer control fuel air metering - Swirl Control
You must be talking about a CARBURETOR. They are called metering rods. They control how much fuel flows through the jets in the carburetor as you push the gas pedal. They can make a engine run lean or rich, by changing the air/fuel ratio.
You can purchase a kit from the manufacturer that gives you extra jets and metering rods.
Metering the air/fuel mixture always looking for that "sweet spot", 14.7 to 1.
DTC P0255: Injection Pump Fuel Metering Control "A" Intermittent (Cam/Rotor/Injection).....
If the guage is registering full all or when under half a tank it is a faulty sending unit. Cost is in the hu8ndred to repair.
You can find a guide on reading a fuel flow meter from sites with topics on flow metering or specifically fuel flow meters. The Flow Meter Directory is one such site. You can also use FloScan Australia which is a leading manufacturer of fuel flow meters.
Fuel filters or just replaced at an interval determined by the manufacture of the vehicle. This varies from manufacturer to manufacturer but normally is around 50,000 miles. On some vehicles the fuel filter is a permanent filter mounted in the fuel tank. Your owners manual will tell you when to replace it or if it is a permanent filter.
Some vehicle manufacturers recommend fuel filter replacement at 30,000 miles. Always replace the fuel filter at the vehicle manufacturer's recommended mileage listed in your owners manual. If you have no manual, replace it at the very least every 36,000 miles, or whenever you replace the fuel pump.

45---------------Fuel Metering.
Only fuel. Somehow it is getting in there. Fuel metering needs to be looked over.
