the seat itself is separate from the backrest and must be removed first if you plan on taking out the backrest as well.
to remove the seat, simply push the lower front towards the rear of the vehicle and lift up. if you do it correctly, you will release the two hooks that slide through two holes mounted to the floor itself. take the seat out of the car and look at the backrest. you should now see two bolts that were previously hiddem by the seat cushion. Not sure what size they are, but unbolt them and I believe the backrest slides UP and off two similar hooks that keep the top anchored to the rear deck.
When you go to reinstall, don't forget about the seat belts. you don't want to backtrack if you don't have to; the little claw mounts can be tricky to manipulate!
