Step 1 is to make sure you purchase the correct replacement first.
Then, the trick is to remove the cover at the bottom of the windshield wiper arm. Unless you do so, the windshield wiper arm will not swing away from the window. This is required because the wiper itself must pivot at a right angle to the windshield wiper arm to remove it.
