You have to remove the speedometer housing from the transmission. The lube plug is behind there. There will be multiple marks to denote fluid level. You want it to be in the middle.
For a 1988 Ford Festiva , 1.3 liter / 81 cubic inch four cylinder engine : ( 1 - 3 - 4 - 2 ) The distributor rotor turns COUNTERCLOCKWISE ( according to my Chilton's book , about.com , autozone.com , and ford forums )
Yes. As I recall, the 88 is carb, the 89 is either carb or F.I., and 90+ are all F.I.

No it is not reverse thread. The passenger side rear spindle is the reverse thread on 88-93 festivas.
U need a new speedometer cable. It runs from the transmission to the speedometer. They tend to break in half or just seize up after they get so old. They are easy to replace, it takes to people to do it but it is really easy to do. I hope I helped you.

I'd suggest you take the car to a speedometer repair specialist. They can remove, repair and calibrate the spedometer.
Remove, clean, replace IAC (Idle Air Control).
Good luck, I've got the same issue
