How do I replace starter cord on lawn mower? Remove the engine starter cover or blower housing which contains the starter rope. Check to see if the spring is still good then just rewind the starter rope pulley to re-tension the spring. Insert the replacement rope into pulley as originally routed and let the spring wind the rope back into pulley. Then replace the starter handle. Make sure you keep tension on the starter pulley while the rope is winding.
That means the SPRING on the starter drive is WEAK. REPLACE STARTER.
There are two things that control the throttle. One is a steel rod, and the other is a spring. Remove the spring and replace it with a steel rod (you will have to fabricate something) and that's it. The gas tank will have to be removed to get at the linkage.
You have a bad bendix spring or solenoid, either way you will have to remove the starter and replace whole or just the engagement solenoid
In general- secure a replacement starter cord. Remove the cord starter reel, Wind the spring driven reel about 5 turns, aligning the cord hole in the reel with the channel for the cord. While holding the reel against the spring, insert the starter cord, tie a knot on the cord inside the reel, let the spring gradually turn the reel until the cord Is wrapped on the reel, replace the starter wheel unit on the weed eater, replace the screws that hold it in place.

disconnect your battery. Remove your starter from under your truck and on the top of the starter is the soleniod. unbolt it, and bolt on your new one. make sure head is on properly and that the spring that forces the head to shut once depressed is in place. That is like 52 card pickup. Unplug the trimmer. Then pop out the cartridge and rewind the string (you don't have to do a perfect job of it) and replace the cartridge as if it is new. Then plug in the trimmer and try again. Hopefully, it is just a matter of something unusual happening just once.
i would look on you tube for a instructional video, it's not very diffecult but hard to explain in words
