usually a 10 mm socket is waht youy need for the 2 or 3 bolts. make sure car is cold, thern find thermostat housing,reomve bolts catch antifreeze with pan, theninstall new thermostat ,on some galants you will need a new thermostat gasket on others you don't,some you need silicon rubber gasket sealer, some just bolt back together. Then refill radiator with about a quart of 50/50 antifreeze. make sure you have extra anti-freeze in overfill bottle ,crank car and let it warm up to see if it comes up to correct operating temperature.

On a Mitsubishi Galant, the thermostat is located in the thermostat housing. Find the upper hose on the radiator and follow it to where it's connected at the engine and you'll see the housing.

My 2002 galant has a reverse flow system. The thermostat housing is in the radiator bottom hose. I had to take off the battery base to get to it.
The 2001 Mitsubishi Gallant thermostat is located inside of the thermostat housing. You can follow the bottom radiator hose directly to the thermostat housing.
