Find all the bolts holding the Valve cover down, Remove them, and the hose going to the back left part of the valve cover. If cover refuses to move after all the bolts are out, gently tap it with a piece of wood or your hand. When loose, pull straight up, and place on a clean rag. Flip it over, Remove old gasket by pulling it out of its groove. Completely wipe clean both sides of the mating surface, AKA the area the old gasket was. Now push new gasket into place where old one was. Now put valve cover back on, and bolt back into place. A little more then hand tight is fine for those bolts. Reconnect hose on back of cover. Now start car. Let idle for 5 mins or so, Turn off car, and retighten bolts. Now your done. YAY. you may want to check the factory torque specs and maybe use some gasket sealant there man.
Might I suggest that either the leak was/is not at the timing cover gasket, or maybe something went wrong on the gasket install?

the 2.2 engine of 1998 and up don't have PVCAnswerI recently replaced a valve cover gasket on a 98 sunfire, and was looking for the pcv valve. I could not find, even looking in a chilton manual. Eventually I called GM, and that is when I found out they are built in to the valve cover there is nothing to replace. The Elbow that comes out of the top of the valve cover hooks right into the air box. That is what I originally thought was the PVC.
