The question you ask is too involved for a proper answer. You need to go to a car parts store, and get a repair manual for your car. They cost about $16.00 Or, go to a Public Library.
i agree.. its not hard to change the water pump but it is kinda involved. a good book is the haynes repair manual for your year and make of car. its a good easy to understand book, just right for the shade tree mech. vince
I'm working on changing the water pump on my '01 Grand Am SE, and it's a pain. So far we've had to take apart nearly 1/2 of the engine; the biggest work has been removing the exhaust manifold and getting to the timing chain to release the original water pump. Oh and the Haynes manual kinda sucks - I'm using it right now; better off paying up for the factory manual, too many gaps in the Haynes for detailed jobs like this one. Still if you wanna save $$ then do it yourself, I called a couple places where I live and they're charging $600-700, and the dealer would probably charge over $1000. I only paid $70 for a new pump.
