Which water pump? On my 1986 190D 5 cyld diesel there is two; the one on the engine and another that is electrical that circulates water through the heating slystem, I have an automatic temperature control on the dash. The electric one comes complete and is made by Bosch. It has 15mm inlet and outlet, hose connected with hase clamps. There are two bolts that hold it to the fender well on the passenger side under the hood near the front of the engine. It takes a 10mm socket. I have not changede the engine water pump but it would be in order to first drain the water, thenremove the fan/clutch assembly, then loosen the belt, remove the pulley, then the bolts that hold the pump to the pump body, clean the old gasket material and install the new pump.

You can find a water pump online for $190 to $250 but it would be better to visit the dealership or a qualified mechanic. I'd go by one or two and get prices and I would be expecting to hear something in the neighborhood of $600 total. frist you must remove the fan shroud to give you the room youll need to adjust the tensoner. once removed between the water pump and the p/s pump is a large Allen key bolt lossen this offto the rear of the p/s pump yopull see the adjust screw tighten to desired tension retighten the Allen bolt and replace the shroud. i hope this has been of help to you all interseted ........ rosdale joe!
