Just pull the camshaft gear of it should be just 3 bolts
On the front of the timing chain cover, drivers side towards the top of the harmonic balancer.
you have to take off the timing chain cover and replace the seal in the timing chain cover as welll youll need the oil pan seal
timing chain is inside the timing chain cover which is located between block and water pump. the water pump mounts to the front of timing case There is a cover that is behind the water pump... The timing chain is under that cover.
Since this category is 305-350, I'll have to assume that YOUR engine is one of the two mentioned. The 1990 Chev 305 and 350 did not use a timing belt. They used a timing chain, and unless something really odd happened, you should never need to replace the timing chain until you rebuild the engine.

There is no timing belt on a 305 unless it is an aftermarket belt drive system.
I believe 88 and earlier 305's have a nylon coated cam gear that is supposed to make them run quieter but are prone to failure, however chain and crank gear are all steel.
